Kayaking Day

By webmaster - Posted on Jul 2, 2012

On Saturday June 16, four women from Parshallville with four of their family and friends kayaked the Huron River from a Wixom Rd. park in Oakland County upstream into Proud Lake where they swam at a sand bar, talked, photographed, ate snacks and rested in the sunshine; then paddled back to their trucks. They encountered a swan family, woods, marshes and the small dam where a crowd was partying and swimming.

The paddle upstream was amazingly easy but the paddle back was easier! Three of the Parshallville women have two kayaks each so lent their extra boats to the visitors. Nobody had to rent a kayak. Afterward they went to one of the  homes for snacks and a rest. It was a beautiful day and they hope to plan more outings. Fun Fact

Local folklore has it that Charlie White, a descendant of Parshallville pioneer and early settler Alfred White, was Parshallville's first and last moonshiner.
