Emma Mentley, daughter of Laurie and Jeff Mentley, will receive a Master's Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Indiana State University this spring. After graduation, she will be working for Ferris State University as a hall director. As Hall Director, Emma will initiate and maintain a program which will improve the educational and social growth of individual students.

Tessa Bolcer, daughter of Mike and Mary Bolcer, will be graduating from Hartland High School. Tessa has been a member of HOSA, a national student organization which promotes career opportunities in the health care industry and enhances the delivery of quality health care for those in need. Tessa will graduate as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Paul Rose, Jr., son of Nancy and Bob Billing, will be graduating from Hartland High School this spring. Paul has been an excellent student earning all A’s this year and last attending many AP classes. Paul will be attending James Madison College, a residential college at Michigan State University, offering programs in the social sciences where students are prepared for careers in business and industry.

Anthony Mattioli, son of Al and Sheila Mattioli, is graduating from Hartland High School. Anthony enjoys playing in a rock band with his brother, Giacomo. They have played at a variety of venues, such as Relay for Life and local festivals. He’s not only musical, but he also runs track and cross country. Michigan State is his college of choice, and he is looking forward to attending in the fall.

Jordan Daniel Hasbrouck, son of Steven and Elmarie Hasbrook, will graduate from Hartland High School June 2011. He has received an Academic Letter as well as an Athletic Varsity Letter. Jordan has participated in HHS soccer and lacrosse. He will be attending Norwich University, a top military college in Northfield, Vermont as part of the ROTC College, pursuing Marine Officer status and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has also been invited to be a part of the Honors Program at Norwich University, and has been awarded academic scholarship funds.

Craig Stoddard, son of Art and Jan Stoddard, will be graduating from Hartland High School. Craig is a member of DECA which is an organization that prepares students to be college and career ready upon graduation. He recently competed with other chapters in Grand Rapids. His favorite hobby is golf and he’s on the Hartland Varsity Golf Team. curriculum. Craig will enter Michigan State University concentrating on a Computer or Engineering

Jacqueline Morcom, daughter of Joseph and Susan Morcom, hopes to work as a child social worker. She has always felt it rewarding to mentor young girls and is currently a Big Sister.

Aaron Braun, son of Roger and Doreen Braun, is graduating from Hartland High School. He has been active in scouting and has earned Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. The title of Eagle Scout is held for life. Aaron has been active in Hartland’s History Club where members reenact battles and mark graves of unknown soldiers. He has been active in German Club and enjoys bowling.

Jack Benjamin Sergent will be a graduating 2011 Hartland Senior. He is son to Elizabeth Sergent. Jack is an active member of the St. John Youth Group in Fenton. He helped in build homes for Habitat for Humanity last year in Owensboro, KY and will be involved this summer helping out again. Jack was recognized by the Optimist Club for his efforts and lead role at school with the "Adopt-a- Family" program. Jack will be attending Baker College in Flint this fall 2011.

Tyler Jerome Washburn, son of Jerome and Lynn Washburn, is graduating from Brighton High School this year. He was a Varsity Cross Country runner. He will be shipping out to Paris Island, SC in October with US Marines or boot camp.

Austin Truchan, Son of Ann Thompson and the late Jerry Truchan, has carried a 3.9 grade point average at Hartland High School. He’s not only an excellent student, but has participated in the Hockey and golf teams. He received an award from the Optimist Club and he is a member of DECA which focuses on marketing and finance activities. He will be enrolled in MSU’s advertising curriculum in the fall.

Leann Halbritter, granddaughter of Mellisa Greene, will be a June graduate of Hartland High School. She has been taking childhood courses in Hartland and Brighton for the past year. Leann has found it rewarding working in the Big Sister program and hopes this will help prepare her for a teaching degree. She would like to enter Washtenaw Community College in the fall.

Fun Fact

"Dogpatch" was once a nickname for Parshallville. People would come to drop off their unwanted dogs, creating a population of strays. The name was a reference to the satirical comic strip Li'l Abner that appeared in newspapers from 1934-1977 featuring colorful citizens of fictional Dogpatch, Kentucky, set in the Appalachian hills.
